The Huntsville/Madison County Visitors Bureau is sponsoring the Sept 2-4 Labor Day Shootout Tournament being held indoors at the Athletic Club of Alabama. The Club is assisting with volunteers.
We are extremely fortunate to have many places to play pickleball and it’s free. This is because the City and County have been tremendous supporters of the game. In other cities where public facilities are not available, it may cost as much as $40/hour for a court. It is imperative that we and our pickleball player friends and family return this support by not only registering for this event but encouraging them, near and far, to register. Please do not wait until the last minute to register.
If you have any issues in getting registered, please contact Joel Lamp, Huntsville/Madison County Visitors & Conventions Bureau, at JLamp@huntsville.org. The sponsors want to know so that the process can be streamlined.

In case of rain, we have allowed for slack in the schedule. We will text players if any changes are made to the schedule. Your help with drying courts, if needed, is greatly appreciated. Pack towels and blowers to help with this effort.
IMPORTANT: All players please have text notifications turned on in your pickleball brackets account.
Our fundraiser, in partnership with The Breast Center, continues with The Pickled Pink Pickleball tournament Friday, May 5 and Saturday, May 6 at the Dublin Park courts in Madison. Funds raised benefit the Breast Cancer Patient Assistance Fund.
Registration will be $40 plus $5 per event registered and includes a nice T-shirt. Spread the word to all your pickleball friends club members and non-members. Age divisions are 18-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+ and skill levels 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5+. A round robin format will be used and all players will be guaranteed at least 4 games. Because it is a fundraiser there will be no refunds, even in the event of inclement weather. Click Here for information and to register for the tournament. In addition to tournament play, there will be Chance to Win drawings, and food vendors.
Mixed doubles will be on Friday from noon until 8 PM, women’s doubles Saturday morning from 8 AM to noon, men’s doubles from noon until 8 PM. Medals will be awarded for the top three finishers in each division and bracket. On Friday, the current plan is to start with the 70+ age bracket, then 60-69 and moving down in age brackets, trying to accommodate those who have to work during the day.
Your participation will assist patients with essential expenses during their cancer treatment. Breast cancer is one of the most expensive cancers to treat, and your participation to help raise these much needed funds is appreciated.
Please join in both as a tournament participant and volunteer (sign-ups will come out closer to the event)!

The following article was published in the SSIPA (Super Senior International Pickleball Association) newsletter.
Huntsville Pickleball Club – Rock Steady Boxing
Kudos to Our Members: Sherry Barnes, Patricia McInnis, Alice Tym & Bart Brannon. The Huntsville (AL) Pickleball Club, consisting of 300 members, sponsored a very successful one-day tournament to benefit the local Rock Steady Boxing program. The Rock Steady program is a nationally recognized, scientifically based boxing/exercise program that slows the progression of Parkinson’s disease. The program is based on three concepts: connection, consistency, and compassion. Our chapter has over 200 Parkinson’s participants that workout daily with certified Rock Steady boxing coaches. Huntsville Pickleball Club, with the help of SSIPA members, Alice Tym and Bart Brannon, raised $2,340.00 for our local chapter of Rock Steady Boxing. Not only did our tournament entrants play in a round robin age/skill competition, but they also had an opportunity to win points (for a 5.00 donation) against Alice and Bart. Participants also made donations by trying to “out dink” our Chattanooga elves-Dianne and Mike Pendergrass. Because of the eye/hand co-ordination benefits of pickleball, plans are in the works to add a “pickleball skills corner” to the daily exercise regimen at our local Rock Steady gym.
