Mark Russell Gym will be open on Sundays from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm for pickleball play again.
Challenger gym pickleball play time update.
The pickleball schedule for Challenger gym has changed and may change on a weekly basis. Please check the Locations and Playing Times page for the latest information. Some evenings, play starts at 4:30 pm and other evenings play starts at 6:30 pm.
Change to Challenger Gym hours.
Previously, the hours at Challenger gym were from 4:30 pm to 8:00 pm. Effective immediately, the new hours are from 9:00 am to 6:00 pm.
Schedule changes.
Starting June 5, 2023, Fern Bell is making Monday evenings available for pickleball from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
During June and July of 2023, Tuesday morning pickleball play at Mark Russell will start at 10:30 am instead of 9:30 am.
Challenger Gym, Thursday and Friday play update.
Challenger Gym, Thursday and Friday play update: we will now share the gym with volleyball practice on Thursday and Friday evenings. The two courts on the left side of the gym will be open for pickleball play.
Friday morning play at Shurney is back!
Huntsville City Recreation has announced that open play at Shurney Center on Friday mornings from 9:30 am to 12 noon has been restored.

Monday – no open play. 11:30 am to 2:30 pm is reserved for women’s doubles league play
Tuesday – 11:30 am to 2:30 pm is reserved for mixed doubles league play
Tuesday – 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Open Play
Wednesday – 9:30 am to 11:30 am Open Play
Thursday – 11:30 am to 2:30 pm is reserved for men’s doubles league play
Friday – 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm Intermediate and Advanced Play (no beginners)
Saturday and evening play will soon end at Fern Bell.
Effective 15-Nov-2021, evening play and Saturday play will no longer be available at Fern Bell. Basketball season has arrived. Sunday play will continue for a while.
