Pickleball News 05/03/2015.

First, a change in our schedule.  Evening Pickleball at Optimist Park has been changed from Thursday to Monday.  Beginning tomorrow, Monday, May 4th, we will be playing Pickleball at Optimist Park from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.  All the same competition, just on a different night.

So… We are playing at two locations on Monday evening:

Recreational and Intermediate @ Max Luther 6:00 to 8:30 pm

Semi-Competitive and Competitive @ Optimist Park 5:30 to 8:30 pm

Hot of the press: Pat McInnis and Sherry Barnes took 2nd place in the recent Pickleball tournament held in Fairfield Glades, Tenn.

Our Website now has a “members only” section.  We now have a secure location to share information with other members of the Huntsville Pickleball Club.  This will allow members to make contact, set up games, discover who may be new to Pickleball, put a name to a face or a face to a name, etc..  Please, when you have a chance, go to http://www.pickleball-huntsville.com and enter your information to share with other members.  If you have any difficulty with the input, let me know and I will help.

Celebrate with a game of Pickleball.  Tomorrow is the “Official Anniversary” of Pickleball in Huntsville.  On May 4, 2010 Tony Horn shared the game with six others at the Senior Center.  To mark this auspicious occasion, Y Pickleball (your unofficial designated supplier of Pickleball equipment in Huntsville and Madison County) has donated five “Pickleball” t-Shirts for a fun HPC Members give-away this month.  To qualify for a drawing for the first one, respond with the name of the only current active player who was on the court five years ago.  We will draw from all correct responses in five days.

To qualify for the Second T-Shirt Drawing please let us know… At what level are you playing Pickleball?  Novice, Recreational, Semi-Competitive, Competitive?  Where do you want to be?  What can we do to get you there?  Are you having a great time playing recreationally and want to play with others at that level?

To qualify for the number three shirt drawing, play Pickleball five times this month.  Make sure you are signed-in and you will be automatically entered.

The fine print… one win per person.

Outdoor Courts in Huntsville

Spring will be here soon…

Two Courts at Willow Park, located at 1928 Aftonbrae Dr. 35803.  It is visible from Bailey Cove Rd. SE,  just south of Weatherly Rd. but you have to get to it from Weatherly.

One Court located at California Street Park, 708 California St. 35801.  It is 3/4 mile north of Governor’s Dr. on the left.

Philpot Park, 1211 Philpot Avenue also has two courts (a couple of blocks from Optimist Park) just north of Oakwood Ave.

Huntsville Pickleball Club Purpose

Section 1:  To provide members a fun, recreational and competitive social activity.

Section 2:  To establish policies for the safe and equitable use of any equipment or facilities owned or utilized.

Section 3:  To promote and encourage participation in the programs and activities of Huntsville Pickleball Club.

Section 4:  To promote and develop Pickleball in Huntsville and surrounding areas.

Saturday Pickleball at Max Luther.

Saturday Pickleball is available (this week only – December 6th) at Max Luther from 9:30am to 12:30pm.  In addition to regular play at all levels, we may also try the Dura ball for a while for kicks and to give anyone who is thinking about playing in the January tournament in Destin a little practice.

Temporary Court Closings

Floors at the following locations are being refinished next week… Temporary Closings.

Brahan Spring: We will be playing on Monday, November 3rd.
They will be closed for Pickleball from Tuesday, November 4th through Friday, November 7th.  We hope to re-tape the court on Monday, November 10th in the morning and be ready to play at the normal time of 11:00am till 2:00pm.

Max Luther: Will be closed for Pickleball from Monday, November 3rd through Friday, November 7th.  They will also be closed on Tuesday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day.  We will re-tape the courts sometime after the 11th and be ready for normal play by Tuesday, November 18th.

Optimist Park:  Will be closed for Pickleball from Monday, November 3rd through Tuesday, November 11th.  We plan to re-tape the courts early on Wednesday the 12th and be ready for play at 10:30am.

Fern Bell:  Will be closed for Pickleball from Monday, November 3rd through Friday, November 7th.  They will also be closed on Tuesday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day.  We hope to have the courts re-taped before our regular playing time on Thursday, November 13th.

Maybe next week would be a good time to try one of the three outdoor Pickleball locations in Huntsville.

 

Saturday Pickleball at Optimist Park

Yes, Saturday Pickleball is available at Optimist Park for three weeks during August (9th, 16th and 30th).

Developing Players (including new players) from 9:30-11:00 am.

Intermediate and Competitive play from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Spring 2014 Youth Clinics

Let the fun begin!
The Huntsville Pickleball Club is teaming up with the City of Huntsville Parks and Recreation to provide
Free Pickleball Lessons to Huntsville Youth ages 8 to 13.
No previous experience is necessary and all equipment will be provided.
Instruction will be conducted at a recreational level and tailored to the participants.

2014 Spring Session for 8 to 10 year olds: May 28th through June 9th.
Every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 9:00 am to 10:00 am.

2014 Spring Session for 11 to 13 year olds: May 28th through June 9th.
Every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 10:30 am to noon.

Opening Night at Optimist Park.

This Wednesday, April 2, 2014 we will have our first opportunity to play evening Pickleball at Optimist Park Recreation Center.  We would like to have a good turn out to show our appreciation for the extra playing time.  The courts are ours for the next four months on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm.
